State representative Katie Arrington says she is going to run for congress again in 2020 …
After narrowly losing to Democrat Joe Cunningham last night, Arrington blamed her setback on Republican incumbent Mark Sanford and his supporters.
Sanford refused to endorse Arrington in the race, and accused her of lying about his record.
Did his actions contribute to her loss? Probably …
Will Sanford seek this seat again? His longtime backers certainly think so. And Sanford has plenty of money in his war chest to mount a bid to reclaim the seat.
Meanwhile, Lowcountry Republicans are openly discussing other options. Among them? Former GOP gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton – who was encouraged to run for this seat in 2016 – and first-term state representative Nancy Mace.
Oh, and it appears as though there is already a grassroots effort underway to draft state senator Tom Davis of Beaufort County …

Davis, incidentally, was Sanford’s former chief of staff before he was elected to the S.C. Senate in 2008.
Bottom line? One day after the 2018 general election, the 2020 GOP primary for this district is “on.”
