Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP Launches Womble Bond Dickinson Lobby LLC to Provide Government Relations Services in SC; Lobbyists John DeWorken & Sunnie Harmon to Lead WBD Lobby

COLUMBIA, S.C.—Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP has launched WBD Lobby, a new subsidiary that will provide government relations and professional lobbying services in South Carolina. The team will be led by SC State House veterans John DeWorken and Sunnie Harmon, who also will continue to lead the Sunnie & DeWorken government relations firm.

With over 30 years of combined experience, the pair brings an in-depth understanding of the legislative process.  It is this experience, coupled with a sophisticated approach to government relations in today’s economy, that benefits clients doing business in the South Carolina advocacy arena. The team advocates for domestic and international clients before state lawmakers and regulatory agencies. Their activities include:

  • Project managing bills through the legislative process;
  • Connecting clients with decision-makers and representing their interests before elected officials;
  • Strategic planning for policy and legislative outreach efforts;
  • Advocating on behalf of business and trade associations;
  • Mobilizing grassroots and grasstops coalitions;
  • Communicating messages to help clients protect and advance their interests;
  • Assisting in events to connect clients with policy-makers; and
  • Timely monitoring and researching legislation that may have an impact on clients.

“South Carolina is a rapidly growing and evolving state, and John and Sunnie are the types of next-generation strategists who can help the firm’s clients succeed and prosper,” said Kevin Hall, Managing Partner of Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP’s Columbia Office. “Sunnie and John already help many of our clients protect and advance their interests, and having their knowledge and experience working with WBD Lobby will greatly benefit the firm and its clients.”

Stephanie Yarbrough, Co-Chair of Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP’s Economic Development Team, SCEDA Board member and Chair of SCEDA’s Legislative Committee said, “Sunnie and John are key strategists in the South Carolina political arena.  They are adept and very wise at navigating legislative efforts in South Carolina, and we are thrilled that they will be leading WBD Lobby.”

Sunnie Harmon said, “We are honored and pumped to lead WBD Lobby.  WBD Lobby will enable us to tap into Womble Bond Dickinson’s tremendous resources in order to offer even more services to our clients.”

John DeWorken said, “As the largest law firm in the Carolinas and with attorneys who carry a great deal of weight in South Carolina’s business and government circles, we are very excited to head up WBD Lobby.”

“Adding South Carolina Government Relations services is something our clients have wanted, and something that has been at the top of our wish list for some time. But we had to find the right people,” said Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP Chair and CEO Betty Temple. “Sunnie and John are the perfect fit for us and our clients, and we are glad to have them working with the WBD Lobby team.”
