COLUMBIA, SC – State Representative Peter McCoy (R – Charleston) was selected by his colleagues to serve as the Chairman of the powerful Judiciary Committee in the State House.
McCoy’s selection offers the Charleston area the highest leadership position for local representatives since Bobby Harrell served as Speaker of the House.
“It is my most humble and proud honor to be selected the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee,” said McCoy. “I thank my fellow members for their trust in me to hold this incredible responsibility. Moreover, I thank my neighbors for allowing me to be their voice in Columbia.”
McCoy, who was first elected to serve House District 115 in 2010, has served on the Judiciary Committee for the past eight years and previously served as Chairman of the Constitutional Law Subcommittee, the Family Law and Probate Subcommittee, and the General Laws Subcommittee.
McCoy also serves as the Chairman of the Charleston County Legislative Delegation.
